klr luggage

Bill,
I have the Wolfman Explorer tankbag and the Alpha rear luggage. I
haven't used it on a trip yet but I sat on my nephew's KLR a few weeks
ago when he was on his way to San Diego. There is very little wiggle
room with this system. I'm thinking I'll have maybe 3-4" movement front
to rear on the seat when fully loaded. I'm hoping to do a few loaded up
test rides to see if I'll be able to tolerate the confinement. The
Wolfman luggage is very well made and has nice innovations on the
tankbag. When riding a few weeks ago with just the tankbag I noticed I
had trouble balancing when standing on the pegs. The bag was forcing me
back. Today a friend came over and made the same observation. He wasn't
even riding, just on the centerstand. I haven't had a chance to try to
move the tankbag forward on the tank. Maybe removing the front pocket
will give me the room to make that happen.
A friend in Texas has the Ortlieb dry bags and last fall they worked very
well on a three day trip. He made his own racks to keep the bags off the
muffler and out of the wheel.
If I was buying a luggage system again I don't know what I'd do. I like
the Wolfman luggage but it may be too confining for my tastes. It also
holds an awful lot of stuff. Maybe too much for most trips.
Hope this is helpful.
Best,
Jeff Saline
