riding and weather - was thermo-bob

Depending on your location, we do have our days. You can drive 20-30 miles and experience vastly different weather here. Depending on the time of year you can literally snow ski at Big Bear in the morning, drive a couple of hours and sunbathe on Venice Beach in the afternoon.
For instance, my brother and I took a camping trip to Ocotillo Wells earlier this year. He drove the truck with his YZ in the back and I rode the KLR.
When we left, it was a nice but slightly overcast day:

It started raining about half-way there. I had my rain gear so it was really no big deal. As we climbed the mountains into Julian it turned into a slushy rain/snow mix and the visibility got really bad. The wind kicked up and, with prudence taking the day, we stopped at a campground in Julian for the night.
In the morning, we woke up and found it still snowing. We'd camped under a stand of pines and it kept most of it off us.

Even though it had dipped into the 20s at 4300ft of elevation, the KLR started right up. (Thank you 5w-40 synthetic!)

We then continued on down the pass and out onto the desert floor near the Salton Sea. The weather was nice and we got a lot of good off-roading time.

We don't get to stay above freezing here. This was a new years ride too. Sorry for the bike in the pictures KLRistas. This was before I was born again. I was bad and full of satan in those days. I had a GS, but I am better now! http://www.ginsucity.com/turkeys.pdf ________________________________ From: Jeff Khoury [mailto:jeff@...] Sent: Tuesday, June 21, 2011 10:54 AM To: Eckert, Christopher (Infrastructure Solutions Dept.) The weather never gets so bad that I can't ride to work. The coldest commute I had was in January at about 38 degrees, and it never rains harder than a steady shower. New Year's Day, all the drunks were still in bed and I was flogging the KLR on "The Snake". http://on.fb.me/fOWzBr -Jeff Khoury ________________________________ From: "skypilot110" To: "DSN KLR650" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 21, 2011 8:19:04 AM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Re: ThermoBob and why I think it's a "Bad Idea"(tm) You people are all missing one very important point. Today it is oficially summer. Stop talking and go hit the trails. In fact stop workign and go hit the trails if need be.--- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com , Jeff Khoury wrote: > > I've been on these KLR boards for a while and I've read almost every article about the KLR imaginable.
