verle nelson gone but not forgotten

Post by Fred Hink » Sun Jun 19, 2011 2:37 pm

I have been lucky to call Verle Nelson my friend. Yesterday afternoon while returning from a great motorcycle ride with some riding buddies, Verle ran his Yamaha V-Star off the road and was found dead between Delta, CO and his home in Cedar Edge. I have many fond memories of riding with Verle, sharing a few meals together and swapping many stories. Verle will be missed by many and my thoughts go out to his wife Lynn. http://www.verlenelson.com/ RIP Verle Fred www.arrowheadmotorsports.com [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Sorry to hear Fred. I met him at CMC a time or two and heard great stories about him. Criswell

I'd like to be added to those remembering Verle. I've enjoyed and benefited from corresponding with Verle Nelson and from talking to him in person. His stories were great. He was one of the lucky ones that had no reliability issues with a BSA he bought new in the 1970s. He was an experienced and skilled rider; He liked to push the envelope but I can't imagine him losing control on a very familiar road unless there was an unusual circumstance. He went down the way he lived; there's way worse ways to go. I worry about this wife; she was very dependent on him. I was told recently that Va. is going to start that law, IF a bike do'es not trip the light you can treat it as a blinking red. (I have, made a "Right on red", then a Uturn.) figure cheaper then working several hrs to pay the fine. Also: In Michigan, Lawyer friend said thet law states, (ablibed) that, you are to stop at a red light, it do'es not say what to do after you stop. with a stop sign the law tells you, stop, then proseed when safe. I figure it's one of those, you can win in court, but at what cost if you have to PAY a lawyer. $100 fine? OR $1000, lawer? ............I wait. (usualy)

Sounds like a reasonable defense. And though I have not been able to confirm this it does sound reasonable. The problem is our owners do not want us the mundanes to have access to the law. I can not find such a Missouri law and I am sure that if I did find it that it would be written in such language that I could not understand it. There are also specific laws passed in some states ( MO and KS at least) where if your bike does not trip the light and you wait a reasonable time you can go through it. http://mobikefed.org/2009/08/new-law-allows-bicyclists-to-proceed-through-malfunctioning-red-lights.php Keep the shiny side up.
