I probably should have added that a LONG TIME has passed since I earned my
living in a machine shop.J
I had this metric thread pitch *wrong*, Jeff Saline and even my trusty
thread pitch gage have confirmed that one of the first things to go when you
get older is the memory.
Metric pitch the larger the pitch number the COARSER the thread. Sorry for
the senior moment-induced confusion.

Subject: FW: [DSN_KLR650] Re: Pitch of M8 bolts.
The 1.0 and 1.25 refer to how many millimeters the bolt moves with one full
(360 degree) rotation. So a 1.0 pitch "threads in" one millimeter and a
1.25 pitch "threads in" 1.25 millimeters with one full rotation. Therefore
the 1.25 pitch is FINER than a 1.0 pitch ( but COARSER than a 1.5 pitch
bolt).
This is different than the inch system where the pitch describes the number
of turns in one inch of bolt travel. The more turns the finer the pitch,
e.g a 24 pitch is very fine, a 20 pitch somewhat coarser etc.
But in both metric and inch pitches the greater the pitch *number*, the
finer the thread.
I was unwilling to specify the pitch on the M8 bolts on the KLR as I
suspect that more than one pitch is used, depending on the application. So
I'd have asked Georgios to tell us *what* M8 threads he had stripped out
and then I could tell him the correct pitch.
Also if the answer is "the footpeg bolts" , a better recommendation is not a
STI (a Standard Threaded Insert, e.g a Helicoil or Time-Sert) but rather to
drill out the stripped threads and re-tap for a bigger (and consequently
stronger) M10.
(I spent 20+ years doing in QC in machine shops so just *might* have this
thread pitch knowledge committed to memory J)
