Sorry to send two announcements about uploading LEDconversion.pdf: I didn't know clicking "send the group a message about this file" would not allow me to send a custom message. I just want to say that the author, Ron Ryno of Planet Equipment, gave me permission to post his article, warning me that some of the info might be dated.

time for a new battery.
The wife and I have not been riding much lately with the bikes have been
garaged for the past year. We have AGM batteries and I swap the battery
tender back and forth between them from time to time.
Last week I started her bike and and let it warm up 'till the fan cycled
a couple of time and then switched off the fuel and waited for it to
show signs of fuel starvation before killing the engine. All well
there.
Yesterday I figured I would actually ride mine to give it the full
treatment...
While getting ready I verified high and low bean, brake lights and
signals, all well. This proves that the battery was working well enough
to run the head light for a minute or so without issue.
Once suited up, I hit the starter button and it went out just like a
fuse blew. The battery shows about 15 volts but it will not show *any*
light when I wire an old motorcycle headlight bulb to it. Seems this is
the form of instant death AGM failure that I think Jeff Saline described
some time back.
I do still *really* like the maintenance free aspect and I am not sure
how soon I will get back to regular rides, so whatever I get for
replacement might need to sit for some time.
Any pro/con thoughts on this one?:

My VOM meter *also* needed a new battery. With a fresh 9volt battery in there, it shows my old/dead? AGM at 12.68V. So the death of the AGM was a case of *pop* and it won't push out amperage anymore, but is still showing as fully changed based on the voltage reading. -- Doug Herr A16 in Oakland, California

Sounds more like a bad connection to me. Maybe a wire connection went
poof. Could be water at the battery too.
Fuse?

I should have noted that I did remove the battery and test directly from the posts. It shows all happy like for small bulbs, but at headlight power level it shows that it is no longer a happy camper. -- Doug Herr A16 in Oakland, California> Sounds more like a bad connection to me. Leave your VOM on there and push the starter button. If the voltage drops below 10v, you will know your battery is done (as if you didn't know already).
