Don, Thanks for taking the time to write this up. It was very succinct yet complete and it should be put somewhere where it's available to everyone. I will take your advice and leave the left side alone for now. What a lot of work to replace a $5 spring. I'm tempted to buy the part then have it replicated in a shop in the best spring steel available. Don't want to have to do this every 40k miles. Interesting that both you and Jeff K. are KLR owners and also BMW owners. I've been looking at airheads forever. If I found a decent R80GS for the right price it would be difficult to pass up. -- ian http://www.scarletfuries.com http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Scarlet-Furies/121218125931

You should be able to see what part of the linkage isn't working >properly. Then you can experience all of that fun of re-assembly. Best of luck, take your time, keep track of the order on how things go back together, and ask for help if you need it. See, you have plenty to do already with tearing into the left side too. The doohickey can wait for now. One thing at a time, then you'll know where to look if there is a small glitch. Don R100, A6F [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Me again, thinking of trading my intruder 800 for a 2009 KLR. Do the newer bikes need this swap out or has the problem been fixed? Also any other problems to look out for in the newer bikes? I am used to all the little niggles on my 99 don't feel like doing it all over again. I know this has been covered but I could not find specifics in the search section. You can e me if you don't want to take up forum space with old stuff. Thanks again
