I've spectated at a couple of them and agree that observed trials is very interesting. Look up North Texas Trials Association. I friend started that club years ago (probably 1970) and I designed a patch for them. I tried riding trials with my Hodaka, but I was no match for the Montesa Cotas and Bultaco Sherpa T's they rode back then. I guess I'm lucky. They have trials events 1/4 mile through the woods from my house. $2 to get in (last time I actually paid) http://www.candytownmc.org/ This area is part of a geological formation that includes rock features that are through out the Gettysburg Battlefield (30 miles west of here) and in particular Devil's Den. Called baked Diabase, iron stone, etc. Anyway, the area is poor for farming, has a high water table (won't perc for a septic - sand mounds required), the state has designated part of that area as state game lands (good for white tailed deer and squirrels), and is the home to the lower ragged edge of society (like me)(you often get the sense that the freezer is getting filled with deer meat on moon lit nights), but it is a hell of a place to get really dirty and muddy on a trials bike. I've waited to see if anyone jumps in with this one, but since it isn't Texas, as the original poster requested, maybe it didn't fit. So be it, here goes anyway. If you are in the East, especially the South East check out the TRial Training Center in Sequatchie Tennessee. (http://trialstrainingcenter.com/about-us/) They've held National and International events there in the last few years, plus you can go there, rent a Trials Bike and learn to do it your own bad self. I rode trials back in the day on my Montesa Cota 123 (wish I had kept that bike). On my first and only Observed Trials event - Candytown, Hershey PA - I took first place on it. Still have the trophy. At the time, Enduro riding was my passion, so I never got serious about Trials. I still have a 1978 Montesa Cota 348, but I am nowhere near the rider I used to be. As the years went by, I wasn't paying much attention to the evolution of Trials bikes and by the late 90s I was wondering what the heck happened to the seats on them! They evolved from a tiny padded seat to what is little more than a strip of rubber on the fender today. Mike
