oil thread - seriously - "lucas"

Post by kusstj » Sun Mar 06, 2011 8:51 pm

So, its still winter in Minnesota, but as I am want to do I change my oil in the A16 late last fall so it is ready to go this spring. I like synthetic and as Amsoil motorcycle oil was not on the shelf down at the store, I grabbed Lucas synthetic motor oil. I thought what the heck. - motorcycle specific oil, ought to be good as anything for the klr. So- I now read some of the specific details on the Lucas oil brochure online for the red label lucas synthetic I purchased. States "not recommended for wet clutches". So, I spend 7 bucks a quart for motorcycle specific synthetic oil - and last I remember the KLR650 is indeed, a motorcycle. And now I come to learn that the motorcycle specific oil I bought is not for all motorcycles. It states in the fine print not recommended for wet clutch applications. So, this oil is actually "specific motorcycle motorcycle specific synthetic oil". what a crock, like I should have to read the fine print. I think it has Moly (molybdememumemnum) this oil is in now my bike I have run it perhaps 10 minutes. So aside from looking forward to calling their customer service and giving the dipshxts a piece of my mind, has anyone tried this stuff.?? I am knowledgable regarding avoiding friction modifiers in bike oil , etc. but seriously, who'd-ah thought you could by bike oil that isn't recommended for your bike. flippin stupid. maybe I will take it out and use it in the F150. po'd in Minnesota todd in chaska A16

I feel your pain. You bought some pricey oil and now you can't use it. Heck, run it in your lawnmower and go buy some different m/c oil. What you have on hand is not uncommon. Honda sells their own motorcycle-specific synthetic(blend?) oil that they in turn say don't use on certain models because of the moly content. The Lucas product you have may work just fine in dry clutch bikes like a Moto Guzzi, Ducati or BMW and in Harley's where the clutch runs in it's own oil. So, yes, it's specific motorcycle, motorcycle specific oil. eddie

speed bleeders

You can also get them from Fred. I just purchased a set and the correct size (SB7100S) does extend out more than the standard valve. I sent him an email (with picture) about this and he responded immediately on a Saturday night. And for those of you keeping score at home: yes, the fork seals are finished... Thanks, Steven Olson A-14
