Don't see where it could hurt, really. As long as you don't mind wiping it clean every now & then. =) eddie > [Original Message] > From: revmaaatin > To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> > Date: 2/23/2011 11:06:05 PM > Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Re: K&N Filter Question... > > > Q. for you-in your professional, considered opinion: > I use a NoToil filter system; when I clean the filter, I also wash out the inside of the airbox with the cleaning agent and purge the drain line. > > Just thinking outloud: Is there anything to be gained by wiping out the inside of the air box with sticky filter oil to trap more dirt? > Or is it best for that to be clean/smooth as possible, etc? > > revmaaatin. > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

k&n filter question...
I've been using filter skins. Like a thin sock, (or condom) it goes over the foam filter, pull IT off clean it, BUT on a trip you carry a couple of spares in ziplocks PRE OILED.
just REPLACE the dirty one, and stick it in the ziplock untill you are home with spare time to clean it.
On one LONG dusty trip, I took the 2nd dirty one of 3 and used JUST warm water, and rinsed it over a dumpster at the motel. Most of the dirt came out yet being just warm water, it stayed oily.
Then I had the 3rd and last one to change out at the campgrounds, to get me home.
AND ALOT easer to clean then the THICK regular filter. (I still clean maybe every 10 times)
I put each of the 2 spares in a sandwich ziplock, then all three in a freezer bag. all very small when done.
takes the packing space of about ONE regular sock. (not even a pair)
A CLEAN FILTER MEANS BETTER GAS MILEAGE, and better power.
