My dad is 72, still riding Hardlys with the Bandidos. Rides a full dress Harley that I wouldn't even attempt to ride. Too darn heavy.

Steve,
Glad you got the other issue fixed. I don't remember the year of your
bike. But if it's an 07 or older the fan system is pretty simple.
Since you already checked the fuse and it's good you know power is
available. Wear eye protection when working with a live fan as if you
are in the correct area and the fan kicks on it could throw stuff into
your face/eyes. Had that happen two years ago to a guy in my shop. He
wasn't wearing eye protection and was lucky it only hurt for a few
minutes. I had eye wash on hand and that made a huge difference.
Anyway, as eddie said, try unplugging the wire at the bottom of the
radiator. Ground it to the engine and the fan should spin. If it does
spin the problem is with the sensor in the bottom of the radiator and
grounding the circuit. If it doesn't spin the problem is probably
elsewhere.
The fan system uses a relay which is the same as the starter circuit
relay. The fan relay is located under the tank (I don't recall exactly
where as my KLR electrics have been reorganized for the last few years)
but it's a cylinder shape about 1 1/4 inches in diameter and maybe 3
inches long. You can easily see the starter circuit relay behind the
black plastic cover on the left side of the bike above the left footpeg.
Maybe try swapping the relays and then testing the fan again. If the fan
works the relay is bad.
Kevin (from Utah) posted the following info about a substitute part on
the list in 2006. Here's what I saved:
***
after having 2 kawasaki fan relays fail on the trail, i now carry
a spare. toyota part #90987-02004-83 is identical to the stock part
and costs $12.84. since installing the toyota part 10,000 miles ago,
no failure.
Kevin
***
If the relay doesn't fix the issue it could be the fan motor is bad.
That should just take a couple of jumper wires to make a circuit to see
if that's the issue. If it is the problem I've been told you can get a
Ninja EX500 fan and it will fit fine. I think it has two more fan blades
but the mount is correct and they are readily available on eBay.
Hope this is helpful.
Best,
