product question

Some time ago while perusing the Internet for panniers I saw a product on a website designed for organizing the contents of panniers.  They were black plastic boxes that nested neatly in the bottom of a pannier.  The site had several photos of them loaded up with tools and spare parts, and they were even labeled as to the contents.  At the time I thought it was a really good idea, but didn’t have the funds to purchase any as I was busy working my way through Fred’s list of goodies.   Time and a computer crash has erased the name of the product and the link from both my feeble memory and my hard drive.  Has anyone else seem these boxes and can give me the link, or do you have any better ideas.

For years i resisted any attempt at organization, but diminishing eyesight and failing memory have caught up to me and I find my trips go easier if I separate stuff in the bags. I use nylon stuff sacks, Tupperware, cordura envelopes from Aerostich, and small Pelican boxes.

My wife gets all her makeup and perfummy stuff when it is on sale. in many cases the products come with extra stuff and all in little decorative zip up bags. She just hands them to me now though it took years to prove that I needed them and hadn't gone all fruity on her. In the food pannier the flatwear, spices and assorted small things are in the round lady bug. The coffee stuff is in the square orange bag. stove and pots are in the big pink bag... Left pannier has two long and one small bag for tools, one that stays in the bike all the time with basics and one that is for hard core tools for long trips. The small one, baby blue with polka dots, has the tire kit.. There are several more including some in the tank bag but you get the point. You can laugh all you want but I can find anything, even at night in pitch black, when I need it. I can tell by shape or color what is wher eand I dont need to be anal about putting every thing in the boxes in some correct order. I just stuff the bags in. If all the bags were the same I would never remember what was where. When I am not road tripiing I pull all the bags out and toss them in reusable grocery bags, one for each pannier. Takes five minutes to repack the bike + 5 to strap the tent, camp site bag, sleep pad and chair down. The camp site bag is a big dry bag that gets everything that goes in the tent with me and the foam sleep pad and chair strap to the tops of the pannier lids. simple and easy, even if a little odd looking Chris

I keep an eye out for that stuff at garage sales. The padded cases for carrying cassettes (remember them?) are useful also - I use one for my air compressor and tire patch stuff. -- Kevin Powers White Bear Lake, MN

klrs, cold weather and oil

#ygrps-yiv-1567657208 p {margin:0;}Remember the "0" is the cold viscosity.  It only makes a difference at startup, and "lower is better".  Once the oil reaches operating temp, the second number is the important one. All these oils have the SAME viscosity at operating temp (if they were all made by the same manufacturer): 0w-40 5w-40 10-w40 15w-40 The only difference is that the 0w-40 does not thicken as much on cooling, providing better pumpability at startup.  Even 0w oil is still thicker than the engine is designed for at room temperature.... really. -Jeff Khoury From: "Jeffrey" To: "DSN KLR650" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 12, 2011 11:09:18 AM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] KLRs, cold weather and oil   5-40wt is fine esp. since synthetic but the 0-etc oils scare me in hot weather Jeffrey 3

I have a couple of $1. "pencil" boxs from officemax in hard cases. great for smaller items, and (kind of) Clear so I see whats in each. batterys, matchs, wetwipes, (oops) etc.   for tools I went to an army surplus and got a Heavy canvase tool bag, flexs to the shape so when other stuff put in it pushs in using otherwise "dead air space" a hard box has.
