another new year's ride
Thought I'd share this short video of the Minneapolis I-Cycle Derby: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Gx4YNb48PM
Plenty of KLRs of various vintages including a shiny-new blue one that my buddy Rich rode home from the dealer just the other night.
Full disclosure - I didn't make it this year; my sweet Colleen's offer of a hot breakfast and a fresh pot of coffee was too good to pass up. I've done it in years past though on various bikes including my KLR, and perhaps most memorably on a Honda Spree.
All the best in the new year folks!

[dsn_klr650] question on buying a 08 klr 650
Miles;
I purchased an 2002 KLR with 2100 miles on the clock for $2200 this summer. So, no need to buy on impulse just be patient.

Miles - there's so many used KLR's I'd find a 07 or older for less money and go that direction. Chances are you'd find one with lots of extras and the doohickey fix in place and be better off all around. Be patient "Grasshopper."

It only has 1600 miles on it, a few scratches on the brush(hand) guards, and appears to be in very good condition. There are a couple of small cuts in the seat fabric, but the mechanics of the bike appear to be sound. The bike has been kept inside the dealership but the battery has long since died. I saw the bike at the automotovie dealer over the summer and I stopped in today and was told they are now asking $3,900 for it. > > Seems like a great price, but a friend of mine told me that they sucked oil quite a bit. > > I'd appreciate comments from the group on this particular year model and price. [dsn_klr650] question on buying a 08 klr 650
My statement may have been mis-stated by me. By design, I meant the bike as a whole and is very subjective. The newer 08+ bikes have better lighting (headlight), windshield (although it still sucks), brakes (dual piston front and I think a larger single in the rear). The exaust is slightly larger and has better bends. I feel the instruments are better as well. The tank is slightly larger. The alternator has a larger capacity. Their may be more, but I'm burnt out from work. The older has a longer suspension, looks more like a dirt bike (and the military model) and has a slightly larger stable of aftermarket parts-again I'm sure there is more, but I have limited brain power at this point. I personally wouldn't go back to an older version because of oil burning.
The newer design is better in many ways (and worse in some) The 685 kit
is in my future when she does burn oil (or I have some extra cash).

M,
I'm curious about specifics of how the new design is better in many ways
(and worse in some).
Care to point them out?
Thanks for your consideration.

<><><><><><><> <><><><><><><> M, Thanks. That was fast. I agree it's a pretty subjective subject. You make some great points I hadn't thought about. Best,
