Dave, It is suppose to be on twice a night on Speedvision (5:00 and 9:00 p.m.) starting tonight. We have Cox cable here in North San Diego County. I plan to tape it. Probably it will end up at Moab for a door prize. George Escondido, CA

I noticed that there is a lone KLR650 entered in the Dakar Rally this year. I think a Spanish fellow ran one last year as well but got hurt a few days from the end. Anyone know anything about this bike/rider? How close to stock?

Whoever posted the message regarding the fellow entered on the CBR900- I thought you were kidding!! There really is an entry on a CBR!! I don't know how he'll do in the sand and the rocks but I bet the he's got a good shot at the podium in the French and Spanish stages. This can't really be happening can it? I was gonna cheer for the Italian guy on the KLR but if somebody is really gonna ride a 100+ horsepower Honda 4 across the desert.....I gotta go for that. Reminds me of the guy who used to do hillclimbs on a CBX or the fellow who races AHRMA motocross on the Honda 750. I hope he at least put knobbies on it.

Watch a hillclimb event if you get the chance- the hot setups are CBR900, or FJ1200 motors in handbuilt frames. I'll bet that CBR900 has more than a few parts from a CR500 or XR650. Tune the motor for torque, and you could have a real screamer. Probably not much heavier than the GS1150s that run the same race (or used to). Devon A15 Richard Smith-Moore wrote:

~~~~When I advertized my 08' KLR for sale in craigslist this past August/Sept, I asked $3200 for it and got it. I was motivated to sell it and thought asking anything more than $3200 and it might not sell. It had good off roadish tires on it, all maint up to date, the $20 Wal-Mart seat mod cushion and appeared to be overall, a well taken care of garage kept motorcycle with about 12 K miles on the odometer If you want to see a whole slew of KLR's for sale, typically ADV rider flea market is full of them. those that price them right sell their bike quickly Getting totally off topic, I miss the comfort the of KLR seat I had (my old 08') The 05.5' 950A I'm riding now, the oem seat is a pure torture rack for me (I'm, 6'1", 32" inseam, tall torso). I should qualify the comparason...the KLR seat wasn't good for 400 mile days in the sadlle, but it was good for 300 + anyway=:-) I really haven't been riding this KTM in the last 3 months, long story but I've been F'd up w/gouty arthritis. Anyways...although I bought the 950A last July, I never rode it more than 40 miles until new year's day this past Saturday...when I decided to hit my buddy Bill's RTE in Ozello Fla. It's 60 one way miles for me, 120 miles round trip, and by the time I got home, my freakin tail bone was killing me!!! I've ridden on some bad oe motorcycle seats but this bike is one of the worst (for me...my experience) I rode to this RTE solo. You couldn't have asked for a nicer day of riding what with the temps in the mid 70's (fahrenheit) and plenty of sunshine. I've been riding to this particular RTE for the last 8 years. Peck's has good food and there's no better way to start a new year than to go for a motorcycle ride When I got their (parking lot) I phoned wifey to let her know I made it. She was concerned as I haven't ridden in 3 months and my legs and feet are/have been weak. When I turned the phone on to call her I heard a beeb that someone had left a message. Turned out it was Bill calling me the day before saying he was nearby and would I be at home for him to stop by? I returned the call pressing phone button #8 and Bill picks up, with me expecting he was somewhere nearby (this was his RTE). Instead, I find out Bill is at home. Turns out he went down hard Thursday on his way to the stagecoach RTE in LA (lower Alabama) that's held between X-Mass and new year's each year. he claims he totalled his ST 1100, saying the right side tupperware was completely trashed. Bill's claim to fame with this ST, he has 260 K miles on the odo, with him putting just about all of those miles on it Listening to him recount his get off I felt good to be alive, and riding an undamaged bike=:-) And the problems I've had with my feet and gout seems small in comparason Jake Reddick Fla.
