Eddie-
Spent 2.5 years over in Hamilton, Alabama. The KLR would have been the perfect bike over there as well.
Your question is like asking, "Does this bike make me look fat?" having only a partial verbal description.
Hard to tell through a gigabyte character. shrug.
Considering the gentle use of your bike, probably good to go.
However-
I would take a look at the chain by examining every link for an O-ring, and while you are there, flex every link to see if it is starting to kink = loss of grease.
A well cared for chain should last you ~15K+ miles. or more.
I have logged as much as 20K and as little as 3K (non-oring chain).
One recent O-ring chain was toast in 13K. shrug.
Wear: I use a #2 Phillips poking it between the chain and the sprocket. If it goes in sloppy, you have some serious chain wear.
If the sprocket teeth look like Hawaiian waves, you got some serious sprocket wear.
Your Clymer and KHI manual's both show pictures of excessive sprocket wear. Probably can find such picture through Google as well.

Dan suggest that if you can pull the chain off the sprocket 1/4 inch you have serious chain wear. Others say, 1/2 the height of the rear sprocket tooth... = 1/4 inch or the diameter of a #2 Phillips screwdriver.
For most suggested wear guides, chain and sprockets are, "replace on condition" = replace them when worn out. There is no safe number...one writer (H. K.) last year went on a month long, 9000 mile trip to Alaska on a chain that had 9K on the clock and got along just fine. His wear did not reach, "replace on condition". He did however, carry a full set of replacement just in case. He also follows a very serious cleaning (WD40) daily and never lets road salts accumulate on the chain/bike.
If you are nervous about the condition, carry a spare; you could sing out your location and have another KiLeRista look at it for you as well.
Leg Pull Switch: ON
You could swing by here tomorrow if you like.
Won't take long to take a look. smile.
If we can get out the door.
The snow is knee deep and increasing,
-30F windchill and the wind is going to really blow tonight and tomorrow.
LPS: OFF
Not a totally wasted KLR day: I got KLR batteries on the basement bench waiting their turns on the battery tender.
