"Nawfick," spoken snappily and with less emphasis on the second syllable. You can tell the real locals because they pronounce the nearby Portsmouth as "Porchmuff."
TK, you'll love the traffic in the Tidewater area; lots of water to get around when driving places. Lots of military installations and the lovely Virginia summers with plenty of 95F/95% humidity days. Actually, the old downtown and residential areas of Norfolk proper are pretty nice with tree-lined streets, but the Tidewater area is a megalopolis. Great access to various bodies of water, both fresh and salt. Stephen (90 miles away in Richmond, pronounced Richmond)

I spent a week there at an air and space conference about 15 years
ago. All I can tell you is the locals pronounce the town as "Norfuck."
