Hey ALL
For those that carry a tool kit, (most DS'ERS)
Home depot has a Huskey, 3 in 1, SPACE SAVING tool, CHEAP $5.
Needlenose, linemen,(bullnose) and wire cutter.
ALL have the wirecutter as normal.
1 handle 3 heads, 1 soft carry case.
I have not, YET, had any issues with any Huskey tool.

IF the sprockets "look" ok, how do you test for chain streaching, if you don't have original spec's?

Mark,
I suppose this is for your BMW??? : )
I seem to recall but didn't take the time to check that you can get a
chain gauge from Fred at Arrowhead Motorsports that you use to measure
the chain. I think it was for something like 20 links. I was given one
a few years ago but just haven't had a need to use it. I don't measure
many chains for stretch but Wattman used to do that all the time and got
significantly more than 30,000 smiles from his stock chain.
I also recall something about 5XX series chains are 5/8" from pin to pin
while 6XX series are 3/4" pin to pin. I suppose that 4XX series is 1/2"
pin to pin but now I'm really just guessing without looking anything up.
This is all just a dusty memory. I bet you could do a quick google
search and figure it right out.
Best,
Jeff Saline

Mark,
You check your chain by pushing down on the bottom run to insure the slack is gone, then reach to the chain at the back of the rear sprocket and PULL on it. If you can pull it out aprox. 1/2 a tooth, it's worn out.
Cheers,
Ed
