platinum spark plugs

We have it lucky. To go platinum costs less than $10. Some of the inline four cyl. sport bikes (CBR Hondas come to mind) take an iridium plug that will set you back between $19-$22 apiece! Yes. That's up to $88 for a single set of plugs. I think I paid about $3.25 for an ordinary DPR8EA-9. =) Happy trails! eddie

NGK DPR8EIX-9. You can also use a Champion 809(RA6HC), which is available with a 5/8" hex so you can use commonly available spark plug sockets. The Autolite 4163 and MP4163 (premium) are also choices. Gap is 0.032-0.036" (0.8-0.9 mm), torque to 10 ft-lbs (14 N-m).

recommended gap- .035 inches, Iridium- DPR8EIX-9, NAPA Stock # 2202, or, DPR9EIX-9, prices seem to range from about $6 to $9 dollars each.

silver electrode. Taking them out of the box, you must gap them to Kawasaki specifications. You may have to order this plug through a foreign car parts store that carries the full line or has access to the BOSCH motorcycle line of plugs.- Thanks to Scott Borderud for this info!

it failed me!

Or, maybe, I failed it. In the 8+ years I've owned this '02, it has never failed to start and run even after sitting for a month or more with no activity due to my work schedule. I've always managed to keep the oil changed in a timely fashion and kept Seafoam in the gas when I knew it would be sitting for awhile.
Today was a different story however. It got up to the 50's here after a few very cold days and I had a rare (non rainy) day off so, I thought I'd get the bikes out and "stir up the fluids". The '80 KZ1000LTD started up with no problems and gave me a good spirited ride. It's the one I had been giving the most attention to here lately as it's the most recent acquisition so, I guess the KLR got jealous.
When I tried to start the KLR, it required quite a bit of cranking but, it did fire up and run on the enrichener. However, when I tried to give it some throttle, even after a lengthy warm up, it wouldn't take it and would stall.
Think its time for a carb cleaning?

I think it's time to drain the float bowl.
