#ygrps-yiv-1991981918 p {margin:0;}It is definitely the pads that glaze over.  It could be that, or it could be the pads vibrating in their seats. To fix: If the pads are truly glazed (?), just put them against a sander with some 120 grit paper to remove the glazed surface.  Glazing usually only happens if you overheat the brakes or a foreign substance gets on the surface of the pad. If they're not, get some brake "stop squeak".  It's a black greasy paste that you smear on the BACK of the pads (between the metal plate and your brake piston).  This attenuates squeak caused by vibration between the pad and piston.  Some pads ship with a thin metal shim with or without an adhesive back that does the same thing, although I've never seen bike pads like that, only car/truck pads. -Jeff Khoury [b]From: [/b]"mark ward" [b]To: [/b]"List KLR" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com>, glds@... <><><><><><> <><><><><><> Mark, I'm not familiar with K bikes or most newer BMWs but brakes are brakes for the most part. It's the pads that glaze but the rotors can hold/carry contaminants. If it was me in your situation here's what I'd try... Clean the rotor with brake cleaner. Wipe it down until you have a clean rag coming off the rotor. Take about 10 aggressive but safe stops from 60 to almost stopped. Maybe allow 15-20 seconds between stops. If that doesn't stop the squeak I'd clean the pads with brake cleaner and then lightly sand them. I'd probably take a file and touch the leading edge of each pad so they wouldn't catch the rotor and cause a vibration. Clean again after sanding. And I'd clean the rotor again too. Then I'd probably try the 10 stop technique again unless the noise was stopped sooner. Good luck and enjoy your new bike.
