For those of you wondering why science can't come up with an electronic solution to the deer collision problem, the article in this month's Arkansas Wildlife might shed some light.
Seems that research has shown deer to be unaffected by any range of sound generated except for low frequency. It caused deer to run in front of the test car.
Reflectors also didn't work.
The only deterrent was a 4' fence with a 2' wing angled toward the deer. 8' woven web fences also worked.
Their advise was to be more careful because science can't help.
Personally, I think hunters can help a lot.

The easiest way to make an effective deer repellent is to market it to hunters as an attractant. Hmmm...maybe an orange vest on the front of the bike would keep them away....hmmmm. Scott

A long. long time ago I was watching some science tv show. They said the reason why animals run in front of vehicles is because of the Doppler Effect sound comming from the vehicles. Fer some reason it confuses them into which way to run? Of course a deer doesn`t know what a vehicle is and don`t know there not supposed to run out into the road. The sound of an oncomming vehicle is not as loud when directly in front, so they think there getting away. er something like that?

Actually that's not the Doppler effect, it's the coriolis effect, the same reason that shaft-driven motorcycles can neither wheelie nor countersteer.

Riding up to Grand Morais last week I noticed that in some stretches the deer warning signs showed a deer leaping from left to right, and in other stretches the deer was leaping from right to left. If they are smart enough to know which way to cross where, you'd think they would understand the Doppler Corollary Effect. -- Kevin Powers White Bear Lake, MN
