Ray, Start here. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/KLX650/ More dirt oriented. Inverted forks. 'Better suspension.' I believe it has smaller gas tanks. 3gal. It comes in nuclear-puke-colors. smile. Most are kick start. Generally a very loyal following. None imported since 1996????as far as I can tell. Very few pristine examples out there. At the above link, there are photos as well. revmaaatin.

I would have bought it over the KLR if the tank wasn't so small. I have questioned this reasoning a time or two after dropping the KLR with a full tank. Criswell

Mike, Thanks for sharing your experience. IMO this area needs attention whenever the front wheel is off the bike. Without lubrication in the speedo drive these parts will start to resist the plate which shows the damage. Your pictures are a good reminder to check any bike which has this type of set-up. And many do.

From what I remember the KLX was more on line with a Honda XR / XL. They had more suspension and were more dirt oriented. Also believe they were either a 600 or maybe smaller. They were a good bike from what I heard. Some guys turned them into street legal dual sports.
