loud pipes,big brother! oh, boy....

..and he possibly failed physics. Unless jazzing the throttle to warn off a car beside you about to shift lanes your way possibly alerted them and ... and.... That's what the horn is for, dude! Stebel Compact Nautilus: Cheaper than any exhaust. Easy to use & louder than the threshhold of pain. When you need it - it's there. It's a silent, ugly accessory when you don't need it. Pointed *forward*, it would reach a threat before most any exhaust note. Re: New laws. I say enforce the existing ones and be done with it. I spent Sunday night camping in Georgia's largest state park. We were in a site remote enough to have it to ourselves on Labor Day weekend and heard all manner of motorcycles cruising the ridgeline road up until nearly midnight. Mostly they were the easily identifiable V-twins with outrageously loud pipes. Still, there was a good share of inline 4s shreaking through as well. The odd Ducati broke the repetition once. Funny how deeeep & pleasibly smooth they sound in comparison. Still, they shouldn't be heard through a mile or two of heavy trees and underbrush. To each his own. I was guilty myself. I once had a Staintune-equipped DL1000 that'd wake the dead. =/ eddie

IIRC back in the day, the thing to do was drop a 1st gear from a KLR600 tanny into the 650. Anyone?

IMS back in the day used to make a wide ratio gear set for the CR500.  If there were enough demand, a wide ratio gear set could be made for the KLR.
