Howdy,
Thanks for the rim info. It would be a hassle to take it
off, spend $200 on a rim and rebuild it. It's just noticeable. The
tire doesn't seem to be unseating. It's the rear tire and hence less
likely to be catastrophic if it does fail. I'll just keep an eye on it
for a bit. Next spring might be a better time to replace it.

If you don't feel any undue vibration, and the dent isn't big
enough that it leaves a gap between the rim and the bead of the tire,
then just ride it. (That's the cheapest solution right there!)
I've "straightened" a KLR rim that had a dent that left such a gap that
dirt and other debris could enter the tire. I used heat, a BFH, and a
slew of sailor-approved vocabulary. If you've already determined that
the rim is unusable, you've really got nothing to lose by trying to
straighten it out. Others will probably pipe up with some safety advice
like using heat on the aluminum rim will ensure it's untimely demise -
and they're probably right, but it wasn't my experience.
