need help with fuel problem

Post by Robert Waters » Sun Aug 22, 2010 8:22 am

Hello,
I have been having some problem with my KLR-650 2007 hesitating.  Friday, I took a 400 mile trip in the 100 degree heat.  It did pretty well except a couple of time it completely shut down--just like you turned the gas off.  Once it shut down just like you turned off the key.  I let it set for about a couple of minutes and it was as good as new.

I drained the bowl and found no water.  Put "Heet" in it just to be sure. The vacuum line to the carb seems to be attached and functional.  My hopes are that the problem is as simple as needing to clean or replace the gas cap, but I'm not certain that vacuum in the tank is the problem.  Anyone experienced this problem?

hesitant idle?

As usual, the advice I picked up here has been solid and on the money. I parted with my KLR yesterday and think it found a good new home. On the way back to San Jose with some fresh gas, it did well when put through the paces at Carnegie Hills. Better yet, the new owner plans to ride it up north to Montana next year and then back down the Continental Divide. I can't think of much better use for a KLR. Meanwhile, you all keep both wheels on the ground at least most of the time and enjoy the ride. Thanks especially to Fred for making this a place worthwhile and increasing the pleasure I got out of my KLR. I'm out of here now. Thanks, Dale Every spring I have 5-6 month old gas in my bike. I just start it up and drive it. If this problem didn't exist when you last rode it ie. before the long parked spell, I'd assume there is nothing very serious wrong with the bike and I'd just fill up the tank, add Sea Foam and go for a long ride; longer the better. Or, if you aren't going to use that bike, sell it. To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogro ups.com From: sh8knj8k@msn. com Date: Fri, 20 Aug 2010 20:38:58 +0000 Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Re: Hesitant Idle?

It often dies when I open the throttle some but settles down some eventually. I'm thinking this is the result of sitting so much and old gas and that fresh gas and some serious riding time will likely sort it out.
