Pre '08 KLRs have 1 reflector with 1 dual-filament bulb (55/60W) or at least that's the setup in my '05.
Running both filaments at once would overheat the bulb (and maybe the reflector enclosure too) at cause it to fuse, so you'd lose both beams. Just what you want when you're halfway round a bend in a dark country road. No thanks.

Time to take her down to bama. movin my klr from michigan to alabama. hope she can handle the change.

If you go far enough South in 'bama, it is known as LA. spoken as:
"I live in LA."
as in lower Alabama.
Beautiful beaches with 100% humidity. Worse if you are not at the beach.
Should have a few more days of riding than in Michigan. You might notice there are lots of fire trails to ride through on the lands owned by the paper companies. Should be lots of fun. Be careful though. Many are heavily rutted by big wheeled trucks.
