75/25 tires - looking for recommendations
Greetings,
I have an '09 and am looking to replace the tires. Done a bunch of reading online and have narrowed the search down to:
-Pirelli Scorpion S/T MT90
-MEFO MFE 99 Sport Explorer
-Bridgestone Trailwing TW21/22
Any thoughts or recommendations? I definitely do more street riding, and my offroad stuff is generally gravel, grass, dirt and some mud (but not often).
Interested to hear what experiences others have had with the 3 tires noted above, or another tire I might have overlooked?
Thanks,
John

For that kind of riding, I'm hooked on the K761s. They perform in an excellent manner in all of the above situations save mud. On the street they are quiet, have low rolling resistance and last a long time.
I have 6,000 miles on this set and I can probably squeak out 2,000 more. I have a spare sittin in my garage waiting to go on. If I need to get in to deeper stuff, I spoon on a shinko 244.
I will post a link to some pictures of them mounted on the bike when I get to work.

There is also the "Avon Gripsters" for use on pavement and gravel roads... also known as the Avon Splipster when used in mud..... for my use they have performed just fine and seem to have a long lasting tread... Cheers, Brent.

I run the Avon's on my 09 and really like them, they have been around a long time. Doug

~~~I used the same Pirelli you are considering on the back of my 08' KLR when the OEM rear tire wore out. Coupled with the OEM front it was a fine tire. I took it off with 4-5 mm tread depth left as at the time I wanted to install more off road worthy tires front and rear...which I did and am still using. I rarely get my KLR up past highway speeds anymore, mostly using the KLR for secondary road work and off road fun...but if you want a tire to run slab at higher speeds, the Scorpion S/T is a good tire IMO with plenty of grip wet and dry. Wears fairly well too Jake Reddick Fla. front rim question
As I have converted my wheels to tubeless (YES, I had to drill the stem hole larger) and love the change so far (couple thousand miles), I want to know how the tire ...partly unseated from the rim.... What tire pressure did you have? I would bet less than 10 PSI.
If you add a tube I would suggest you just put it in - should work fine with the larger stem hole. (I used RTV silicone to seal the spokes, NOT Slime!!!)
There is a tubeless valve stem and Slime as evidence. I took a low speed turn a few days ago and the tire partly unseated from the rim. Almost lost the bike. > My question: I bought the correct tube. Is it likely the PO drilled out the valve stem hole to pull off this stunt? Am I looking at buying a new rim? >
