h.i.d. results

I have a 09' with dual headlights. The high beam works independently with the kit as each bulb has it's own ballast powered directly from the OEM headlight plug.   Now for the night time test ride report.   They are really, really bright. The light @ 5000K bulb temperature is pure white. I take that back. They are stupid bright. The hot spot of the H.I.D bulb is farther out in the reflector and may be the reason that straight out of the box, they were horribly misaligned vertically. I was lighting up reflective lettering overhead highway signs at 1/4 mile . . . on low beam. =( With the bulbs as is, high beam overlays the low beam pattern pretty well and just intensifies the effect,   I came home and made use of directions found on this list to re-aim the headlamp assembly lower. Test ride # 2 was next and I found the beams still a little higher than stock. But, the light is much more effective closer in and the beam is darn near parallel to the ground now. I deduced this from the fact that the bike can now light up centerline reflectors for 4 - 5 city blocks.  High beam is just an afterburner. It's like going from "stun" to "kill" . I rode through a darkened residential street with a canopy of trees. There was a capsule of daylight preceeding me and squirrels awakened yelling "Turn it off! Turn it off! ". lol   Am I happy with the decision to install them? Yes. And No. I'm contemplating making a thin shim out of aluminum (to handle the heat) that will space the bulbs back a small amount - moving the hot spot closer to where the OEM bulbs are. There, I might have the beams in place like I intended and be a lot more kind to oncoming drivers at night.   eddie

Ron, FWIW - My Shinkos are "H" rated, and I've been up to 140 km/hr indicated on them tubeless. Cheers, Ed
