looking for a brake light modification link

Post by Robert Kochen » Sun Jul 04, 2010 2:00 pm

I've spent (wasted) a fair amount of time today and yesterday looking for a modification for my 08 KLR brake light. The one I've been told about is a plug and play replacement with just a small amount of modification required. It is apparently an LED board that fits inside of the factory lens. I was told it's roughly $70 bucks. Could someone post a link to this if it exists?

A better deal is a plug in Red led 1156 bulb from Custom dynamics, about $35. Tuner mirror foil from Autozone works to line the rear tailight surround to get more light reflected. Email me for a photo of that LED plug in bulb. Lansail@.... Mark in Nevada Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

#ygrps-yiv-279882770 p {margin:0;}I've also had good luck with the "Eagle Eye 5" from autolumination.  4 superbright SMTs for taillight, one 5W luxeon for brake.  If you're unfamiliar, 5W of luxeon is REALLY bright. They cost 20 bucks. -Jeff Khoury

chain wear/replacement

Post by Jeff Khoury » Mon Jul 05, 2010 8:33 pm

#ygrps-yiv-1002616332 p {margin:0;}As a follow up to my opinion on chain replacement from last week, I replaced the chain on my '09 today. I have 17,000 miles on the stock chain and it was starting to show the first signs of wear (links failing to swing straight coming off the countershaft sprocket).  I'm going on a long trip next weekend, so I went ahead and popped on a new RK SXO. I examined the pin and o-rings that came out of the old chain and found:
[*]There was little if any grease left inside the rollers.[*]The o-rings looked surprisingly good. No scratching, scoring or cracking.  Nice and shiny rubber.  However the links on the old chain moved much more easily than on the new one.[*]There were two shiny bands on the pin that I removed.  There were no visible wear grooves in the pin, but if you ran your fingernail over it, you could feel a little bit of a ridge.[*]The chain had not elongated appreciably.[*]The sprockets looked indistinguishable from new.
So, could I have gotten a few thousand more miles out of it?  Sure.  If I kept it super-oily I could have, but I would have let my sprockets die too.  This way, I have a fresh chain and my sprockets will last at least another 17K, maybe more. -Jeff Khoury

I'm looking for something similar to what I have o n My Concours, it was made by an outfit in Canada called Gizmomill Brake!conversion kit. I bought it from Murph's kits in Kentucky. Unfortunately I believe Gizmo is gone the way of the DooDoo bird. Great taillight. I get comments all the time on how bright it is and how it got the attention of the driver behind me. I'd love to have one for the KLR.
