Post by Bob Kochen » Tue Jun 29, 2010 7:42 pm

Hi guys, I'm wondering if anyone is using motolights or another alternative on their front forks. Any pictures of installations? Thanks, RJ RJ Kochen 08 Kawasaki KLR650 * 99 BMW R1100rt * 81 HONDA CB900C IBA * BMWMOA * KCBMWMC * KC HOAME Club * AMA

jeff's cooling fan

Hey Jeff (& all)
On the hole in the wall trip you said you turned on the cooloing fan manualy, If hot, shouldn't it stay on anyways??

AND, I have wondered, when I stop and the fan is running, it stops when the water in the "radiator" is cooler, but the motor is still hot enough that the fan was running and STILL HOT, I wondered about installing a small electric pump, (with T stat.) to circulate the water
also when the fan is needed after The key is off.

Mark (W.Mi.)  (pencil? or Ink pen?) <><><><><><><> <><><><><><><>   Mark,   I was turning on the fan manually as I realized I was going to have cooling issues on that section based on travel and wind direction, speed and ambient temperature.  The real issue was engine temp and not radiator temp.  In the conditions I was in I couldn't tell if the fan was working or not.   The fan turns on based on the outlet temp of the radiator, not the head temp which is shown on the gauge.   I did cycle the engine a few times when stopped to allow coolant from the radiator to enter the engine.  With the bike faced into the wind I could run the engine for about 10 seconds out of each minute or so and reduce engine temp significantly.   I don't see much point in an engine off electric coolant pump and stat.  Seems to me it's something else to complicate life.  In about 28,000 smiles of KLR riding this is the only time I ever needed to take extraordinary cooling action.  Well, other than installing and using my fan override switch, the head mounted stat with by-pass and my dual radiators.  : )   Best,   Jeff   . ____________________________________________________________ Get Free Email with Video Mail & Video Chat!
