who is using rim locks here?, now rim strips

A friend who's opinion I respect teaches motorcycle repair and maintenance plus makes his living working on bikes is highly against the silly coneing tubeless tires / spokes on a tube type rim. He claims you are risking a high speed blow out or sudden loss of air. I knew one guy who did this and rode it to Alaska successfully. I don't like high speed blow outs so I think I will stay with tubes on a tube type rim.
