Where can I get a cheaper front brake lever for an '06 KLR650? I seem to be going through them rather quickly and they run $20 and a two week wait locally. My kick stand is a bit too tall or my rear shock has sagged a bit and the bike seems to fall over at a moments notice, curling the front brake lever around. Thanks Pat

I bent mine back, some, and it's been bent (and fine) for almost one year. YMMV Robert P. Wichert P.Eng +1 916 966 9060 FAX +1 916 966 9068 ========================================================

Thats one word... :-) Two words would be "Don't Fall" Also that has to be alot of sag.. sure the forks are down in the triple ? Top of tube should be just about flush with top of triple clamps. (Caps have to be above of course) Also is the preload on the rear shock ramped up to say "5". When parking the bike also turn bars all the way to the left. Heck I put a piece of 2x4 under my stand and it is not that close to falling over, unless heavy winds. Thats with my fork tube sticking up about 3/4" (needed that little bit of footing) www.ronayers.com try that otherwise I would go to Fred, he is dang near lightning fast. Guessing you have lowering links ? in which case take a hacksaw to the kickstand and weld the foot back on when you get the right length. Dooden A15 Green Ape

Pat, Look at getting some DECENT handguards (I use Emgos with an aluminum bar in) so you stop bending/ breaking levers. Cheers, Ed

When I bought my 08 I was recovering from kneck surgery to fix a nerve that made my left hand's left two fingers not be able to extend. In otherwords I couldent get them over the lever without moving my whole hand. The day I picked up the bike I cut the end of the clutch lever off and order a new one. The shop had just picked up the Kawasaki brand and the parts system wasnt sorted yet. the lever was $3.00 I order another plus two front brake levers. The shop owner seeing how cheap they were shelved a bunch thinking they must break often. Kawasaki sorted out the system a few weeks later but let it go and never sharged the shop full price. The shop owner likes me now :-) Skypilot

Sounds like a proper set of handguards would be a worthwhile investment. -- Kevin Powers White Bear Lake, MN

I'd like to thank the sage advice of this list that recommended bark busters back in 2003/2004. A set of $25 Tusk Universal Bark busters was one of the first things installed on the A7 and have resulted in zero broken levers being replaced. Thanks listers! Jim Fortner Plano, TX A7

At the time it would have made it impossible to get my other two fingers over the clutch lever. Now the nerve has grown back and everything works again.   That said a good set of hand guards is always a safe bet From: Kevin Powers [mailto:powershouse@...] Sent: Monday, May 17, 2010 11:55 AM To: Eckert, Christopher (Infrastructure Solutions Dept.)
