Hi all, the time has come to sell my '06 KLR650. I'm in very northern part of N.H. near Berlin. The bike has 18k miles on it, but the engine is junk. It puked a seal and lost oil last year, and seized. It starts now, but doesn't sound good...definite knocking. I haven't torn the engine apart to see exactly what happened, but at minimum plan on a new top end.
The bike has lots of accessories/upgrades, but isn't a pretty bike. The red plastic faded so I prepped it and painted the tank, radiator guards, and side covers in tan camo (Krylon plastic paint). The tan looks good. I hadn't gotten to the fenders because I did that just before a trip to Kentucky last year, and the engine seized just after returning. Another issue is that on that trip, the chain launched and wrapped around the rear hub, causing some minor gouging. The worse part is damage to the airbox, gouges on the swingarm, and the chain guides and guards were torn from the swingarm. A new chain and sprockets were installed and everything worked fine the rest of the trip.
Now for the good. It has a tall windshield, almost new MEFO tires, and brand new heated grips (installed days before my trip, didn't wire them, but they are installed). It has a Packrat pannier bracket but the rear crossbar was damaged when the chain came off. There is a pair of large ammo can panniers painted red (originally matched the bike) in excellent shape, with stainless footman loops on top for cargo. They have quick-release brackets that can have padlocks for security. The rear rack was fabricated by me, and is very strong...unlike the stock cast aluminum one. Painted black with POR-15 paint. The front fender is a low UFO, black in color. It really helped with buffeting. I have the trimmed original as well. As mentioned above, chain and sprockets are nearly new-O-ring chain, OEM rear sprocket, Raptor front (Yamaha dealer was the only one who had parts on the trip). I think the front is 15T, need to check. Aprox. 700 miles on those.
There is also a Wolfman tank bag and tank panniers that go with it. They are a little faded but good shape. Tank bag as original and extra large map pocket. Bike was upgraded with subframe bolt kit, and a full stainless steel locknut kit. Carb was drilled, T-mod done to the vent. Doo had been done when the bike had 1000 miles...should be reusable. Headlight bulb upgrade, and other things I can't remember offhand. The seat has a Gel cover and foam, but the cover started coming apart. I installed the Wal-Mart pad and loved it, and never bothered touching the cover.
I really don't know what to ask. With the bad engine and other damage the bike itself doesn't have much value, the value would be in the accessories and upgrades. With a replacement engine or a 705 kit this would be a good bike again. But I'm out of work and can't afford it. If someone is interested, make an offer and I'll consider it.
You can see a couple pics during it's last outing a week before the engine went here:

If anyone has any offers let me know. Or if, by some really slim chance, anyone has a good engine available and wants to barter, I'm a good auto mechanic, and I also have quite a few Dodge Dakota, Durango, and Ram parts; and Jeep Cherokee parts to trade.
