Hey when I hit about 70-85+ on a smooth stretch of Xway, the bike starts to shake. (and It's hard to find a smooth stretch in Mi.) I tried leaning forward, but No change. I tried a fifth of rum and closing my eyes, incase it was just ME being scared, but it still shaked. (ok, kidding about the rum.)   I hear about Fork Braces for dirt roads, what about on the slab??   Mark (W. Mi.) (Oh If you MUST ask.....6ft. 1/4inch, 250lbs.)

Tire air pressure?   When I first got my KLR, I was unnerved at those speeds until I tried (thanks to members of this list) 35 psi front, 32 psi rear. Of course, those pressures make for not-so-good gravel road riding, so you have to air them down again.   Mike

Relax, take the pressure off your grips, meaning...relax. The KLR is very sensitive to even slight tension at speed, relax your arms and hands, use a light touch and see how that works. Mark, I have found that drinking a nice warm cup of Ovaltine really helps me to relax before I go bike riding. You might try that. -- Roger Dill Innovative Financial Solutions 210-681-1848 T 866-831-4661 F www.ifsdebtpros.com

Stock pressures on a  09' KLR is 21psi front / 25psi rear.  Me? I run 30F/33R on the road. My original front is about to make it to 6k with decent tread left. The original rear tire was replaced anout 1500 miles ago. - eddie

Attachments : I run 32psi front and 35psi rear on the street with great results. I suspect that the earlier post (below) recommending a higher pressure on the front than on the rear might have been a typo.

I can t remember what pressures I ran on the stock tires (it was too many tire changes ago!) but the 32F/35R has worked great for me on several pairs of Dunlop D606s, several pairs of Continental TKC80s, a pair of Continental Enduro Pros, a pair of IRC 110s, a pair of Duro Medians and a pair of Bridgestone Trailwings.

So I suspect that you could run those pressures on the stock Dunlops without concern.

Is that air pressure for stock tires?

#ygrps-yiv-822805970 p {margin:0;}The KLR's geometry and narrow tires aren't really suited to high-speed runs, but there are some things you can do: At speed, experiment a bit by sliding back and forth on the seat. Notice how your riding position can effect the stability. On my '09, with my suspension setup, I start to notice stability problems above 75 or so on grooved pavement.  They are improved if I move rearward on the seat.  After playing around a bit, I found that with my weight and height, it handled best on the freeway if I softened the rear suspension all the way and sat toward the rear.  Since there is no adjustment for preload on the front, that's the best I can do without installing a spacer. Increasing preload on the front a bit would allow me to run stiffer on the rear (which I like to do for trail riding).  IMHO, the front end is too soft.  I may be looking in to spacers soon. Your weight and height may have very different results.  For Reference, I'm 6'0" and about 180. -Jeff Khoury

Howdy Mark Ward, I think Fork Braces are better suited to the rigidity demanded by the pavement than the flex that is sometimes desirable for dirt roads. Just saying... Well, other than the fact the dealer neglected to tighten the fork bolts when I first bought it ('06 KLR), two things really helped my highway ride stability: 1) Got rid of the OEM knobbies. Replaced with Bridgestone TW's. 2) Replaced the front fender with an Acerbis mini. You would be AMAZED at the change in handling the smaller front fender makes at highway speeds. The sail effect on the original is more that you think. If you're not heavy duty off-road, it's worth the $20. Bob
