Anybody else seen what was just posted on Motorcycle Daily ? Kawasaki Motors Corp. announced that a dual sport will be its' flag ship in 2011. Developed in a previously secret partnership with Buell Engineering the new KLR 650 single cylinder will be a technological tour de force. All details are not available but the published overview describes a motorcycle with many features never offered by a major manufacturer. Advanced metallurgy and extensive use of new species of carbon fiber allow for a dry weight of 305 lbs. A revolutionary head with a conical combustion chamber will put 70 horses and 75 ft-lb's of torque at the rear wheel. A carbon/plastic chain and sprocket trio will last the life of the bike and needs no lubrication. The motorcycle will be manufactured in the US at the Robert Carlyle Byrd Manufacturing Village in West Virginia. This site was chosen because it's the most modern facility in the world with access to the most skilled workforce. Cutting edge robotics will drastically reduce production costs. Exact price was not given but it was stated that it will be less than $5000 US.

I saw in another release you can opt for the diesel version but it adds 35 pounds and will lighten your pocket another $4000. Walt

Is this April Fools joke a yearly thing?  Didn't take note of who sent it but wondering if that person is not just changing the year each year because it seems like I read the same things last year.  Fooled me both times though.  LOL rw Re: 2011 KLR WOW ! 08' klr oem fuel tank capacity

Post by sh8knj8kster » Sun Apr 04, 2010 12:25 am

After removing the fuel tank on my 08' recently to do the valve inspection, the tank was half full of gas. Not wanting to re-fit the tank with that extra weight in it, I drained the tank by turning it upside and letting the gas drain through the fill opening at the top of the tank, into a large funnel sitting on an empty 5 gallon gas jug. it took a while to get every bit out but I'd be surprised if there was more than an ounce left in the tank, if that much After fitting the tank back to the frame, (mucho easy empty) and ready to add fuel, I recalled a conversations on this list as to how much fuel the 08's hold. Some said 6.1 gallons, others said 5.5 gallons. Here's what I did...I measured gas pouring into an 8 cup pyrex graduated glass measuring cup. I measured out a quart at a time and emptied four quarts into the tank so I ended up with a gallon of fuel in my tank After warming the motor for several minutes at idle I rode to a filling station 7/10's of a mile from me to top off the tank. I'm looking at the recipt now, it took 4.934 gallons to fill it to the level I always shoot for which is right up at the top near the opening So, from my experiment, my 08' KLR fuel tank will hold pert near 6 gallons of fuel. FWIW, the 08' factory manual I have says the fuiel capacity is 5.8 gallons. Looks like KHI did not overstate this fact Jake Reddick Fla. Yeah, had me hooked for a bit also. Too funny! What seems possible is for Honda to make the smart choice and let the US have the Translap. But they send a touring rig instead?? <>
