During the same timeframe, I owned a XL1200R Sportster and a Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom. Due to the way-forward fairing design pushing all kinds of turbulent air at head level, the DL was way noisier to ride on the freeway compared to the should've been louder Harley. Why was the HD quieter? It gave undisturbed airflow to my helmet. My HJC full-faced helmet. ;) I would never have ridden either w/o it.   In 1995, I rode a Honda Transalp through a plank wall (long story). The chin bar on my Shoei RF200 had a nice dried paint stripe across it. My teeth and jawbone were completely unharmed. In fact, thanks to a full set of leathers, i had no injuries other than some bruises. The Honda was technically totaled.   eddie

I have a friend (Harley Rider, not that there's anything wrong with that) who says that he HATES to ride on the freeway due to the wind buffeting.  Keep in mind, he wears a "skull cap" type helmet.  So, from his point of view, he doesn't ride the freeway, whilst I am on the freeway almost every day on my "crummy little" KLR with no problem at all.  It's the helmet~!
