Years ago I created a web page on how to replace KLR650 fork seal with compressed air. It was hosted on the free yahoo geocities webspaces which are now gone. I've finally recreated it here if anyone is interested.

I have a 2004 with 28k on it. I changed the fork oil once at 15k. I used the measure what dribbles out the drain screw and put that same amount back in. I used official fork oil. Anyways the left seal near my brake caliper started leaking a weak ago. I put in two tablespoons of TransX into that fork and 300 miles later, it has stopped leaking!
A mechanic told me that it is usually dirt that causes the leak and that there is a tool to get the dirt out of the seal which I haven't found necessary to try yet.

The lubrication companies followed suit and now you pay 3x the price for the same stuff.
You can buy full synthetic transmission fluid in a couple of different weights by the quart. Standard tranny fluid can be had for $10.00 a gallon at Pep Boys.

#ygrps-yiv-986555985 p {margin:0;}Standard Dexron is 10wt, but there are varieties that vary up and down.
If you see it labeled "High Performance" it's probably 15wt. I just use Dexron. Never had a problem.

I have a friend (Harley Rider, not that there's anything wrong with that) who says that he HATES to ride on the freeway due to the wind buffeting. Keep in mind, he wears a "skull cap" type helmet. So, from his point of view, he doesn't ride the freeway, whilst I am on the freeway almost every day on my "crummy little" KLR with no problem at all. It's the helmet~!
