The manufacturers say use 90W gear oil. I have a Scottoiler that takes their own blend of heavy oil and ____ (?). I've had Scott's on bikes for the last 10+ years and whenever I ran out of their oil, I happily substituted Bel Ray's "Gear saver" 80-90W oil. It's $10 a bottle and will refill the oiler many,many times for a lot less $ than aerosol chain lube. I got the Scottoiler from www.aerostich.com . Sure, it's pricey. But, if it doubles the life of a chain and sprocket set, it starts to pay for itself in a hurry. They can be a little fiddly to setup. But, once done - take the hassle out of chain maint. My 09' KLR has about 6,000 miles on the clock now and I've adjusted the chain once since new. The chain always has a supply of lube to it and cleaning the rear rim is easy as a shot of WD40 on a rag and a quick wipe. That's it. If the chain gets a little nasty from off road use, I spray it with WD40 and wipe it off. The chain is clean as a whistle with no dead chain lube crud attached.     eddie
