Hello boys and girls,
its almost KLR season--almost = that time of year 'we' go from frozen to mudden; April Showers bring May mud....we have started early here in the Dakota's with the rain. Still, time to look at what you have for KLR camping and up-size/downsize the things that don't work for you.
In the next link, below, is a well written article describing an effective stove suitable for the KLR community. = cheap, effective, that even a cKaLvRe man could do it. This also looks to be an excellent Boy Scout project, etal as well.

scroll down about 2/3 way in this post
http://www.backcountrypilot.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4776
and see a 1-min video how well this stove works.
What is surprising is the 'scholarly' content of the article to include a discussion/merits of various fuels.
CAVEAT: I have not used this 'device' but it seems to have quite a following. Comments solicited from anyone who has tried this.

Great info on camp stoves - and nice break from the nonsense. Thanks. My go to stove has been the MSR Pocket Rocket (the one in the small red triangular plastic case). It weighs 12 oz. with a full 4 oz. isopro cannister. They say it boils 2 liters of water per 1 oz. of fuel used. It has decent flame control, it's worked well for me on shorter trips and it's damn small. But, the cat food can/alcohol stoves are cool !

#ygrps-yiv-1031311800 p {margin:0;}If you use denatured alcohol from the hardware store, you will get less soot and a hotter flame than isopropyl alcohol.

I looked into a cam upgrade. the problem I ran into is that most all only opened up the top end at the expense of lost power at the lower end. On road...Ok. Off road..I use the lower end a lot and would not want to loose the torque.
