gasket removal ?

Post by Bogdan Swider » Mon Mar 08, 2010 11:56 am

Gasket Removal ? Anyone willing to share strategies on speeding up gasket removal ? The cover gasket – on the right, clutch, side – has lived there for 71k miles. Been using a single edge razor, a chisel, brass brush and dental tools. Also applies some brake parts cleaner with a toothbrush. So far a painfully slow process. Any advice appreciated. Bogdan

gasket removal ?

Gasket Removal ? First choice would be a wire wheel.  Bench mounted for the cover or a 3 to 4 inch cup in a hand drill for the case or cover.  Also a sharp chisel edged gasket scraper but be careful not to gouge the aluminum.  If it is really stubborn even with a wire wheel then the Permatex gasket remover also known as acid in a can will soften it up for easy removal as well as remove paint skin destroy clothes and just about anything else it comes in contact with except metal.

#ygrps-yiv-941388065 p {margin:0;}I don't know if it would work in this instance, but I don't think I've found anything that K&W carb cleaner won't take off.  Be careful though, it burns the skin somethin' fierce.  WAY better than gumout, etc. -Jeff Khoury
