Hylomar Gasket Compound. I’m having trouble locating Hylomar Gasket Compound. Can anyone recommend a good alternative ? I want to put a thin coat between the gasket and metal on the clutch cover, right side of the engine. Bogdan

Hylomar Gasket Compound. I use Permatex RTV Black Silicone.  As long as it is thin you will be OK.  You don’t want a big bead to form inside.

Never tried Hylomar. It used to be one of those products you could only read about in British magazines, kind of like Bovril or Vegemite. Then a few years ago, guys on lists like this started talking about it. It is now a Permatex brand, presumably available at Fleet Farm. I have never tried it, because my tube of ThreeBond never seems to run out. (Also known as YamaBond when sold by a Yamaha dealer.) I have been using it, even on Brit bikes, since way back when Hylomar was an unobtainable exotic. Somebody might ask you which ThreeBond you want. I took a wild guess and told the counter man: the one that does not harden. My answer must have made sense, because he went in back and brought me out a tube. That's probably the one you want too.

Bogdan, You can buy it here from 'jarrot' an ebay provider. He is 4.0. Even called me at home to see if I was pleased with the transaction. Wow. I bought several tubes and saved freight for other KLR riders. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HYLOMAR-BLUE-RACING-FORMULA-GASKET-JOINTING-COMPOUND_W0QQitemZ200445506540QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2eab7bb3ec Coach Jeff Saline suggest that you put it next to the trouble lamp and warm it up a bit as a little bit goes a long way and if the hylomar is cold, it witll be quite thick. revmaaatin.

Why Hylomar instead of Permatex? I have always used whatever the local Autoparts joint had and never had any issues. What is different about Hylomar that makes it worth going to this extent to get it???? Sincerely, Curious Chris
