Oh, I detect an accent in this post--on a lovely Engilsh day.
Leaking tap will only deprive the carb, not 'flood' it.
What a leaking tap will do is take you to a far. = fire, US southern accent.
Ride it with a leak at great risk....
You might be able to just tighten the four screws on the backside of the tap--but it most likely will need to be overhauled. Tightening the screws has worked for some--did not work for me.
Fred has a kit for a leaking tap, so you won't catch on far.
Best if you take the tank off instead of trying to remove the tap while the tank is mounted because you will not be able to get the socket on the two mounting bolts easily. When you take the tap apart, pay attention to the orientation of the parts as you take it apart.
Speaking of being a a far:
I been to a far once, and I could not get the helo landed soon enough. The crew chief squealed like a girl. Pretty funny now. Not so funny at the time.
It is part of aviation wisdom; the only time you have to much fuel is when you are on far.
Ride that bike with a leak it won't go far because it is going to be 'on far' soon.
The overflowing carb is a stuck float (varnish) ; or trash under the float needle (still a stuck condition). Hopefully you can
1. tap on the carb with a screwdriver handle where the fuel is going into the float bowl and it will dislodge. You might
2.shut off the fuel, drain the bowl tap the carb, now crank the bike with the drain plug missing so that the fuel gushes out the drain hole. NOTE: do not be looking in the drain hole when you crank the bike!!!!!!
When you drain the carb, catch the fuel in a white rag, paper towel so you can see the sediment/trash.
If those things don't work, you will have to take the carb bottom off, and tickle the float, maybe even remove it.
HOW? loosen the carb-boot clamps,
disconnect the choke and throttle cables prior to twisting the carb, and I believe, t
wist the carb so that you are looking at the bottom of the carb from the right side (others say so, if I got that back wards; that is how I did mine....)
Got to go, T-time.
