We've seen how horrible government programs are when we look to Sweden, Norway, Germany and other European countries. Although not perfect, everyone is cared for. Before anyone cries about socialist horrors - keep in mind that these evil little secular regimes are consistently ranked in the top ten spots for overall happiness/satisfaction. I'm sure plenty of people here in the US also get help from government programs, so it's a consideration prior to just dismissing it as a bad idea (not sure it IS a bad idea to ensure everyone has some sort of care). The banner could have had a website link explaining WHY it's a bad idea, but just to say "no, bad!" doesn't really win points with anyone with an IQ above single digits.

The foundation of this whole argument is to ask the question is it morally right for someone to take from another person that which does not belong to him? Is it ever right to do it under the threat of violence, under the point of a gun or implied violence? If not, does it make it right if the thugs are from the government? I think not. I am a free man and I do not think it is right for anyone to steal from me the fruits of my labor.
"Reverend", I do not know if you are a pastor or if that is just your name, but the results of the government getting involved in 'welfare' has been the disengagement of local churches and charities. There is a tremendous amount of waste the is incurred just to implement any government program. Who know how to best help the homeless man? Someone in Washington, or someone who lives a works locally in a ministry that help the homeless? Who would know best if a guy is a free loader or someone that needs a hand up and not a hand out? When things go from local control to Washington DC, service get worse and by the time the dollar makes it back to the guy that needs help, it's work maybe fifteen cents.
When it comes my motorcycle, I'll take good care of it. I'll keep it tuned up and change the oil regularly. I wouldn't think of running it into the ground and expect someone else to pay for repairs. Why then should I be expected to pay for someone else that trashes their body by smokin', and drinkin' and druggin'? Yet I will be forced to pay or go to jail or lose my home. It's all about freedom and liberty and keeping the government out of my life and stop telling me how to live it. A revolution was fought to get these freedoms. We have been endowed by our Creator to have these freedoms. When they get stepped upon again and again, some people just can't and won't take it any more and then you get guys that feel the only option they have left is to fly airplanes into buildings.
Happy riding. Enjoy your freedom!!!

Considering the health care bill; Neither side Dem/Rep have sold anyone, but when stuff is done in secret and deals worth millions and billions are made, I have a problem with that. I teach classes for the state and I look at my services as being representative of the tax money people pay, meaning; I give them the best I have while keeping costs within reason for the classes. When I see waste in Gov. I have a problem with that, at any level.

Mr Critchley has subtly and appropriately admonished us. It is time to return to our mutual interest thereby stopping this thread which divides us. So let us act like Gentlemen and move on to 'monotrack vehicle' related topics.

You must have lots of problems, amigo.

A civilized society is judged by how well it takes care of its less fortunate members.
With the standard of living we enjoy in the USA, our lack of comprehensive healthcare is nothing short of a national disgrace.
Furthermore, I believe the selfish money-grubbing mindset that the opponents of a nationalized health care system display are shameful.
Not to mention, self-defeating.
Ask yourself this: If we had a comprehensive health care system in place, would emergency rooms still be used for health concerns that should be handled (or more likely totally avoided) at routine doctor's visits?
Some people just don't get it, I guess.
And as far as churches, I think they should be taxed like the corporations that they really are.
Why anyone needs an imaginary friend in the sky to tell them how to live their life, let alone feels the need to "convert"/kill those that don't agree with their fairy tale book, is totally beyond me.
Bring on the godless socialism!
Thanks

It's not stealing to expect those who prosper by living in a free society to pay their dues for living and prospering in that society. What is truly surprising is to hear carping on the part of those who are not asked to pay a nickel extra.
