#ygrps-yiv-616605359 p {margin:0;} My scariest side-wind incident was on Highway 1 in central California. There is a place where 1 turns away from the coast hand heads over a mountain pass. HUGE wind warning signs everywhere. The wind was AT LEAST 40MPH and gusty as hell.
There was a really stiff side-wind as I bore into the corner, gently passing a semi in the turn. The wind was terrible behind the semi. The buffeting was throwing me all over the place. As I pulled up next to him, the bike nearly fell out from under me because he was blocking the wind. The worst part was when I finally got around him. 40MPH wind, plus the "bow wave" from the truck nearly threw me off the side of the road. As soon as I got my composure back, I rolled the throttle to put some distance between me and that truck!
