Hi Everyone..   Just acquired a new09 KLR and am looking for a suitable tankbag. I prefer magnetic and a clear map pocket but am open to a real good fitting bag.   Any recomendations from the group?   TIA, Bob Martinsville,IN.   GO COLTS!   Hotmail: Trusted email with Microsoft s powerful SPAM protection. http://clk.atdmt.com/GBL/go/201469226/direct/01/'>Sign up now.

I think the wolfman is a great bag, but the explorer is not waterproof.  I do not have much luck keeping the rainfly on.  I bought this one for my KLR and love it.  Holds more stuff than I need.  http://www.wolfmanluggage.com/Expedition/lg_expedition_tank_bag.html From: Bob K To: dsn_klr650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Mon, February 1, 2010 4:29:41 PM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Tank Bag Recomendations....09 KLR

I spray treat a lot of things with tent water proofing, like KIWI. about $7. sold everywhere. several brands out there.   My windshirt is now rain proof too, with 2 coats (dry inbetween) I took it in and formed a dish shape filled it with warm water and it did not leak thru. with a cruiser and KLR650 all my soft bags and liners (biking coat & pants) and more. Best cheap magnetic tank bag out there with a map slot. http://www.jcwhitney.com/Magnetic_Tank_Bag?ID=12;0;0;0;100001;ProductName;0;0;0;0;2010612;0;0 I've had mine for going on 5 years. It's wearing a little around one of the magnets, but if you want something better looking, you're spending $60 on vanity. '06 Red KLR

RT-- Could you describe to us your primary riding environment? How hard do yu push your KLR when riding off the paved surface? It sounds like it has really worked well for you, but it is hard for me to imagine riding prairie trails and broken shale/granite trails/roads of the Black Hills with anything that is not firmly strapped on. or bolted on solidly. revmaaatin.

Re: [DSN_KLR650] Maxxis M7000 Dualmaxx tires / Michelin Anakees Thanks for the info on the Anakees, Peter. I’m already familiar with the Slipsters as I’ve gone through several sets. Looks like both brands last about the same – 7k miles on the rear. FWIW I’ve settled on a cocktail of Avon Gripster on the front and K270 on the rear; also spoon them on myself and, kinda, balance them. The Harbor Freight cheapo tire changer helps make it easier – worth the $80. Bogdan

Bogdan, I/ve never used the Avon Gripsters, so I can't give a fair comparison. You can of course do a search on them to discover what other KLRisters have gotten in the way of mileage for them. For myself on the Anakee's, I'm at about the 3600 to 4000 mile mark, and I still; have good tread left. I don't expect them to get the crazy long distance mileage I've heard some brands and models get, but they're not the worst in that department either. Peter
