Re: oil. The 2.5L cast into the engine case represents the total designed capacity of the lubrication system, not just the sump capacity. It is intended as a reference value So that is how much would be used in a just assembled new engine. The user should never need to put that much in. If one checks the service manual, they would see amounts listed to add after an oil change, w & w/o filter. Both of these amounts are well under the 2.5L system capacity. There are several places that a few tenths of a liter of oil remain in the lubrication system after doing what one thinks is a compete oil drain. Bottom line - use the sight glass upper indicator as a fill to gage on a properly leveled bike, after a 10 minute drain down dwell time. Forget the more is better logic in this case.

If you drain the oil and change the filter, you will very likely see that it only takes about 2000ml (2 liters) to take the oil to near the top of the glass. That's 500ml shy of what it's supposed to hold. So, if you can still see even a small bubble at the top of the sight glass - engine hot, bike level and after a few minutes run down - it's actually low on oil. By 20%. Yikes! eddie
