I hope Stu Mumford's post is sarcasm . . . but if it wasn't my response is that I wasn't aware we had ignorant Sociopaths on our list but CaStu's posting, if an accurate representation of his views, proves otherwise.

" . . this is America and if I want my bike to be loud it's nobody's business but mine",
implying the Harley homily , 'Loud pipes save Lives'.
 "Let freedom roar",
 "Commies".
In my opinion it's hopeless to critique these blabberings of angry, anti-social people. I would expect to hear from others to weigh-in on the posting instead. If the list allows this sort of thing I'd be very disappointed.

My muffler started tweeting so I threw it away and took a length of pipe and bent it to fit, welded a tab on it, put a chrome tip on it I got from Pep Boys and that was that. Looks cool, is a lot lighter than stock, sounds really loud and good, and I bet I gained 4 horsepower.

Plus, I want to be safe on the road. Cagers hear me coming and moce out of the way.

I don't see what all the hoo haa is about loud pipes, this is America and if I want my bike to be loud it's nobody's business but mine.

				Hi Ron,

I like them both a lot, they are Kawis, after all. Had an '07 KLX250S,
traded it in on the Versys, but missed it, so bought the '09, which is
a noticeably better bike than the '07. I haven't breathed on it yet,
but they are supposed to wake up nicely. As is, it will hold 70-75 on
the highway and get close to 80 MPH with easy commuting. I intend to
use it for a dirt bike school sometime and then to hone my off-road
skills so I can better handle the KLR off-road.

I wish the Versys was just a bit more KLR like, but it is an awesome
midsize utility bike. I may end up using it as a medium duty tourer
instead of the DL1000, as it seems to run out about as strong as the
DL, trading weight for displacement. Very easy to ride in traffic and
gets about 55 MPG. Very light & nimble feeling, yet stable. Should be
a fine tourer for my Yorkie and I.

About all I've done to either is conspicuity lighting, mostly Kisan
Tech stuff, headlight modulator, running light conversion of the turn
signals and brake light pulsation. I do this on all my bikes (rather
than loud pipes) to help make my presence known, in a much less
 abrasive manner (than loud pipes).

				Hi Stu,

Safe from what? I hope you enjoy your ride and return without
tinnitus. I'd be out there to appreciate seeing the coyotes & mountain
lions, as well as the landscape.

Don't know that I care much for the fella, so I certainly wouldn't cry
 to him.

I've considered a Sporty, but if I got one, I sure wouldn't pipe it to
sound like a juicy phart on decel.

 Cheers,

A couple months a go a deer hit me on my wideglide, at the time I had some loud staggered duals on it. The loud muffs didn't make a
difference one way or another, the deer hit me and died, my bike and I slide down the road, I got pretty beat up, my wideglide hit a
cement bridge embutment and got tore up. All the time up here in wine country on weekends we have all the drunks in Lexuses,
Mercedes and the like on the wrong side of the road and pulling out of the winery side roads in front of us. Loud pipes don't do
shit to scare animals away or deter idiots in cars from hitting you. If you like loud pipes, ok, but the loud pipes save lives
 mantra is total bullshit.

It's funny how you inject the Prez of the U.S. to all this, what does he have to do with it? Is Obamy for quiet motorcycle exhaust
systems? I thought his main priority was to kill my grandma?

Oh well, this crap flinging will go nowhere, let's not let facts confuse the issue,
