Re: The SMV decals I made up & mailed to a handful of list members.
First, I appreciate the concerns over their legality and safety.
But, the stickers I made up are quite small vs. what's appropriate for a tractor or other farm vehicle.
They are too small, in fact, to be noticed for what they are unless you are fairly close to the bike and are for humorous purposes only .
They're no more likely to draw serious attention than the helmet sticker that says "I still miss my Ex. But, my aim is improving."
Against the red rear fender on my 09', all you really notice more than a few feet away is an orange triangle that's not reflective.
At night, it's placement directly beneath the illuminated tail lamp reduces it's visiblity. However, the red reflective perimeter does shine nicely back at a light source.
This isn't farm country. I don't think more than a tiny percentage of the population would even know what the symbol represents, anyway.
They are too busy talking on the phone, feeding children in the back seat (from the driver's seat while in motion!), reading a newspaper or any one of a number of scary activities to give it a thought. I'm on a motorcycle. That means I'm invisible. I've been backed-into by an ambulance {their fault} and deliberately bumped from behind by an unmarked police car hurrying on it's way to have breakfast at Waffle House. Really.
As for every day law enforcement, I wear all the gear all the time, ride defensively and with a certain degree of politeness in town. vs. the hooligans in shorts, tank tops and sneakers going 20-25mph over the limit (or worse)... I doubt I draw much attention. We seem to have a number of police cars without working speedometers, turn signals or drivers in obeyance of even modest road rules when they aren't on a call. They're just happy if you stay out of their way.

I'm in Columbus, Ga.:Home of Ft. Benning, Columbus State University, the birth place of Coca-Cola & Aflac insurance (I live across the roads from their world headquarters).
Don't get me wrong. We have a great group of law enforcement folks when it come to fighting crime.
Maybe as a motorcyclsits, I pay more attention than the average driver. We have to, right ?
I have seen some goofy stuff happen in traffic - both civilian and otherwise.
A slow- moving vehicle sticker that could've come out of a cereal box?
Not even on my "worry about it" list.
Heck, I once rode my V-Strom to the shooting range with an eight-shot, slide action shotgun slung over my shoulder. Unloaded, of course.
No problem. Alhough, I noticed a distinct lack of tail gaitors that day............

I have to think that if the cops don't have time to pull over all the bikes with straight pipes, then I doubt
an almost invisible sticker is going to get you in trouble.

Funny you should mention straight pipes,Rick. My Honda/Suzuki dealership
owning friend's grandson go a ticket at Daytona Bike Week for revving his
engine..... his Kawasaki Mean Streak engine! It was entirely his undoing,
too. Wasn't paying attention to who was standing nearby (l.e.o.) and let it
rip with aftermarket pipes. A few seconds of that and he was handed a
dummy-tax notice. =)
