rear brake help needed!

Hello People! I need some expert advice. After bleeding the rear brake on my 2001 A15, it functions as it should. But after time/use, maybe a few days, the distance I have to press down the rear brake pedal increases gradually. After about a week or so. the brake pedal bottoms out without the rear brake being activated. Bleeding the rear brakes starts that process over again. I realize there are a limited number of areas that could be causing this. I'm thinking the reservoir, the hose connecting it to, and the master cylinder. Then my stainless braided hose connecting to, and the caliper assembly. My friend thinks it's a problem closer to the master cylinder, because of the "time it takes for the air bubbles to appear after the speed bleeder. I haven't noticed any fluid leakage, but maybe I need to take a closer look. I'm wondering if there are any special troubleshooting procedures I can use to help me figure out where the problem is. Thanks for your help ahead of time!!!

Robert,
Yes that thought has occurred to me and I may try that. Thanks!

Norman,
In some situations (probably only emergency) you could take some plumber tape and wrap it several times around the threads of the oil plug before putting it on. It will then probably get tighter and it is much less likely to leak.
I'm not a professional, and this advice is NOT professional, but it is an option, at least temporarily.

So now I have ridden twice to work (about 50 miles 2 ways) at 70 -75 miles per hour on the freeway. No leakage from the "stripped" drain plug! I may still change the plug just to make sure.... although a new plug may not get tighter either....

rear brake help needed!

For years I read good things about the Russell speed bleeders so when I put the ss front brake line on my KLR I ordered a set to replace the stock bleeders since I was going to change the fluid front and rear anyway. With the speed bleeder in the front caliper it was near impossible to get the system bled. I finally installed the stocker and used a brake bleeder to purge the system. Out of curiousity I reinstalled the speed bleeder with next to no loss of fluid and found it now easily bled the system, only problem was it would do pretty much what you described only quicker, maybe a dozed applications of the brake and it would get spongy. There was never any sign of a leak but it seemed to allow air back into the system. I installed the stock bleeder and again bled the system and have never touched it for 2 summers. The remaining speed bleeder for the back is still in the package. Good luck with your problem and have a great day.....Greg
