I used to watch that show. Had first season on VHS. My kids got me a stuffed Alf for my B-Day back then. They thought that was funny I actually still have it. Grandkids play with it once they stop being afraid of it. <><><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><><> Rick, I don't normally participate in off topic discussions but this brought back a pretty good memory and a little chuckle and I'd like to share. Back in the mid to late 80s I was stationed at Ellsworth AFB just outside of Rapid City. We had a large missile field then with lots of folks working a huge remote area. The Security Forces had the responsibility of protecting our missile field and they did a wonderful job. One morning I was heading in to base and using what's known as the commercial gate. It's about a straight mile of road through pasture to get to the gate. Time was probably about 6 am and it was just getting light. A Peace Keeper (armored personnel carrier) was approaching me with a stuffed Alf pushed through the center gun port just under the windshield. I almost wrecked laughing so hard. I never saw that again and never heard about anyone getting in trouble for doing that. It was one of those really funny moments. I can just imagine Alf saying something like "Hey guys, pull me back in, it's cold out here". Or "I've got the front, you guys cover me". Thanks for bringing that memory back for me. Good pictures and ride report. 1300 miles on knobs is a lot IMO. Must ask - what forks do you have on her? Was it a plug and play swap using stock triple clamps? > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] >
Vermont is a great place to play around on a dual sport, glad you enjoyed the pics. But the Black River Stages rally was in upstate NY. I spent more time on pavement on that trip than I would have liked but the 606s were worth it when I got back from lunch and was apparently about 5 minutes late to get to the spot I was supposed to be road marshalling. I asked the stage captain if it was too late or if he wanted me to go down to the spot and he replied, "You can go, but you better make it fast." Music to my ears and well worth the entire trip for 5 miles of closed course riding as fast as I dared. Of course I was loaded with all kinds of stuff, including a laptop, that I wouldn't have carried if I were actually going to attempt to go as fast as possible, but it was fun anyway! The forks on my KLR are from a KLX 650C (the street version) and it was not a direct plug and play. The KLR steering stem is longer than the KLX steering stem and has a smaller diameter. Had to have some collars machined to fit the KLR stem into the KLX triples. The KLX front end has a slightly larger rotor as well and a twin piston caliper, so it's basically the entire front end of a KLX except for the steering stem. I also had to fabricate (and I use that term loosely as I am no machinist) mounts for the stock speedo cluster. da Vermonster
