electical problem

I posted a while back about a problem with my battery going dead when
sitting for a few days. I put in a new battery and thought it was
solved.Problem is back.
I pulled the seat tank and cowling and could find no bad wires.
Jeff S mentioned something about the 20 amp fuse.Now when I hit the start
button the fuse blows. The one on the white wire.Any one have any ideas.I
rode on a 700 mile trip after new battery with no problems.Then let bike sit
and battery went dead.Checked wires and now blows fuse.

You most likely have chafing in the starter circuit that is causing that line to ground. The problem will be "after" the switch. Follow the wire from the starter switch down the handlebars (a common source of chafing) through the harness and to the starter. Make sure the insulation is intact the whole way.
The other option is that your starter is bad, but chafed wiring is more common.

Dennis,
I don't remember the post or the problem can you refresh our memories
here?
I think your A18 in the signature means it's a 2004???
Does it have any of the safeties by-passed?
Any electrical modifications or accessories?
What was the original issue?
What did you do?
What's happening now? Push the starter button and the 20 amp fuse blows?
Just as something to do... maybe disconnect the small plug from the
starter relay and see if it blows the fuse again. If so the problem will
be in the wiring between the ignition switch and the starter relay.
I think you could also disconnect the regulator/rectifier and eliminate a
possible issue but that was only after a quick glance at a wiring
diagram.
Rereading your post just before sending... maybe take another look at
the 20 amp fuse and white wire to make sure it's not causing the issue.
And that you really are using a 20 amp fuse. : )

pmr rear panel protectors

I'll never have a passenger on my 09'. (LOL, that's what the 08' GL1800 is for.) And yes, as soon as I silently questioned side panel removal with the racks in place, I grabbed a 8mm t-handle wrench and checked it. Yes, They slide out with barely enough room. But, they can come off easily - racks still in place. - eddie
