windshields.........
I bought my bike on Craigslist with lots of Farkles. Included is, I think, the larger windshield from HappyTrails.com.
It works very well for me, 5'10" 200 lbs, Corbin Seat.

I have a tall one, and I'm thinking of taking it off. At speed it puts the air at the top of my helmet which caused my head to bounce around and also messes with my vision. I am also 5'8". The windshield came on the bike, so I dont know the brand, but I can look closer. Plus I have not tried the stock shield, so I can't do a comparision yet. I may be interested in selling the tall one, send me a PM and I'll send you a picture of it on the bike.

pit cock leak question
I am no mechanic, so if you disagree with anything that I write please let me know. The problem is that my KLR's Pit Cock is leaking fuel. It does not leak when on "Reserve". It only leaks when "On", and revving up seems to make it leak worse.
The leak is on the right side of the Pit Cock (if one were facing the Pit Cock) right near where the fuel lines come in, to right side right of the "Off" position. I can see the leak and it seems to be the Diaphragm. It spits a very small drop every so often.
I read the Clymer and it seems that this is an easy fix? Remove the tank, remove the Pit Cock (do you even have to do that or can you do it with the Pit Cock on the tank?), and remove the four screws from the rear of the Pit Cock, remove the Vacuum Cover, remove the spring, replace the Diaphragm, and put back together. Is it as straightforward as it seems? I called the dealership and the Diaphragm and spring cost about $30.
Does my diagnosis of the problem sound about correct? I am thinking of replacing the Spring while I am at it? Should I replace the O-Ring that goes between the Pit Cock and the tank? Also, replace the O-Ring that fits between the Diaphragm and the Pit Cock? It seems that I may as well go ahead and replace those O-Rings?
Any ideas or suggestions? And, thanks!

pit cock leak question
Mine got a leak on the back of the petcock and would drip/spray fuel towards the starter.
Local shop had the diaphram for like $12, removed tank and replaced as you described.
Do not remember if it came with the O ring or not, if it did I replaced it, if it did'nt I did'nt. Sorry been a few years now.

<><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><> Eddie, Since you asked... : ) it's petcock not pit cock. : ) Steve had a leak on his petcock when we were in WY heading from the Hole in the Wall to Casper. That was a tough morning as he also had a flat rear tire that morning and a countershaft seal leak. He went in to Walmart to buy some oil and while he was inside in air conditioned comfort I removed his fuel tank and tightened the four screws on the back of the petcock. Each screw was loose 1/4 turn or so. A little tightening stopped the leak for the rest of the trip. I think I'd check the screws before I'd be buying any parts. pit cock leak question
Eddie,
I can't comment on your leak, HOWEVER, once your petcock is removed to fix the leak you can EASILY modify it so to increase your range once reserve is selected. The higher of the 2 'pipes' controls WHEN you go on reserve, so if you modify it to be longer, you'll have a better warning (and farther to seek fuel) of when to gas up. Mine is an extra 1 1/2" higher giving around 100 miles on reserve. I cut it and added a piece of fuel line in the middle that made the space (where I cut it) to 1.5".

pit cock leak question
Interesting.......
When I bought my bike last week, it came with a full tank from the dealer. Well, after riding that first tank until I hit reserve; when I got home I parked it in the garage. As I said, this was my first tankfull, and I thought I hit reserve a bit early at around 238 miles. My first thought was that I was using too much fuel for a bike that supposedly gets good mileage. (My previous KLRs got around 50 or so, so I hit reserve before I should have even used 5 gallons.....)
Now, when I took delivery, I did look in the tank to see how much fuel there was (just because they say they give you a full tank with a new bike doesn't mean I won't check and verify I have gas). It was almost full; I would have got another inch or so of fuel into the tank, but it wasn't really bad, either. Perhaps I could have squeezed another quart, maybe two, in.
Anyway, just out of curiosity, I shined a flashlight into the tank, to see where the fuel was when I was on reserve. I could see a rubber or plastic "extension" hose on the metal gas line, raising the "reserve" about 1.5" to 2" higher past where the metal line originally ended. More or less what you are talking about doing.... So I hit reserve earlier than if that extra hose wasn't there.
Perhaps the factory got wind of your idea?
As a side note, based on how much *I* put in, my first tank got a minimum of 48.3 MPG - obviously not exact because I put more gas back into the tank then I used. I'll know better my next fill-up, as I will fill to the same level each time. But this is not bad for a bike that's not broken in yet.
